DWELLING OF TIBETAN DEITY ON WISHING TREE

At the Kuan Yin Tong Temple a Jalan Gopeng in Ipoh, here is this 12 metre tall Wishing Tree.  This tree is said to be the dwelling of the spirit of a Tibetan Deity who would be able to grant wishes.
Worshippers can write their names and wishes on joss paper tied to an orange and amulet (see picture below) which will be hurled up the Wishing Tree.

On the fifteenth day of the Chinese New Year, Chinese maidens would throw mandarin oranges into the sea in the hope of getting a life partner but they do it differently at this temple.  How?  Instead of the sea, the target for hurling the mandarin oranges is the wishing tree.  They can do it on the last two days of the new year.
