POTS OF AUSPICE

Every Chinese New Year, it is a must for my mum to buy at least a pot of four season lime plant to place at the entrance of our house.  This weekend we went to a nursery to check out the lime plants there.  Mind you, the bigger pots can cost a few hundred ringgit.

As any Chinese would know, it is extra auspicious to have the a pot of plant with lots of orange-yellow fruit looking like gold nuggets flanking their doorway to welcome the new year.  Actually, the four season lime plants are usually bought in pairs for good luck.
In Cantonese, Lime is 'kat' which sounds like the word auspicious. So having it at home or office would symbolise an abundance of good fortune for the coming year. The plant is usually bought in pairs to double the good effect. The lime plants are also usually decorated with pretty red ribbons and auspicious ornaments.
