The movie "Pretty Woman" starring Richard Gere and Julian Roberts first hit the silver screen in 1990. It became a hit and gave the popularity of the two actors a boost. At that time, Gere who was raised as a Methodist was already beginning to embrace Buddhism. His interest in Buddhism began when he travelled to Nepal in 1978 and from that time on he has been a practicing Buddhist and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.
Who is to guess that 14 years later, Julia Roberts was to travel to India and in the process she has converted to Hinduism after discovering all about the religion while filming her new movie "Eat Pray Love". Roberts, whose parents are Baptist and Catholic, was so captivated by Hindusim, she experienced her own spiritual awakening during the shoot. Speaking to the September issue of Elle magazine, Roberts said she goes to the temple to "chant, pray and celebrate." She tells Elle magazine, "I'm definitely a practising Hindu."
