Yesterday I went with my mum to the Chinese Prayer Paraphernalia shop to buy prayer items for the Hungry Ghost Festival which falls on the 14th day of the seventh lunar month which happens to be today. Some Chinese celebrate it on the 15th day instead of the 14th. Tonight my mum will offer prayers to our deceased relatives, offer food and drink and burn incense and joss paper as offerings to them in front of the gate outside our house.
