LUSTRAL WATER

Whenever I go and pray at the Siamese Temple in Tambun Road, I usually request the monk to bless me with lustral water.  Lustral water?  What is it?  It is some sort of 'holy water' or blessed water used among Buddhists and others like the Catholics and Hindus.
Water is put in to a new pot and kept near a Paritrana ceremony, a blessing for protection. Lustral water is water that has been infused with magical powers or has received a blessing from monks during a sacred ceremony called "Nam Mon". Thai 'Lustral water' can be created in a ceremony in which the burning and extinction of a candle above the water represents the elements of earth, fire, and air. Thais believe that those who drink lustral water or have it sprinkled on their head, the most sacred part of the body, will be blessed.
