In olden times, Chinese couples who were childless would adopt a child and hope that this child would help 'bring' more children into the family. According to the old folks it works.
My mum says that some people would tie a red string to a fruit tree that is flowering to make sure that it bears fruits. My mum on the other hand would buy plastic fruits and hang it onto a Indian Jujube tree to make sure that the mini apple-like fruits would grow to maturity.
