USED ENGINE OIL TO PREVENT TERMITES

As a result of the termite problem I had faced, I spent a lot of money on termite powder, insect repellent, insect sprays and mothballs. This does not include the damage done to my furniture, clothing and books plus the cost of hiring people to help me throw away the damaged furniture.
Besides placing termite powder around the house, I have also been told to get used engine oil to apply to all the cracks and crevices found in the walls.  It seems that the used oil acts as a repellent for them termites.
And so ... I will have to visit the Toyota Workshop on Monday afternoon to ask the mechanics if they could give me some used engine oil.
Anybody out there got other methods?  If yes, please share.
