PULUT KUNING AND RENDANG

Yesterday morning, my colleagues and I were treated to glutinous turmeric rice and beef/chicken rendang by one of the teachers in the school.  When we pressed him for the reason why, he simply replied that he wanted to give his friends a treat before the school holidays.
I was told by my Malay friends that sometimes people treat their friends to pulut kuning during a special occasion.  Hmm ...
I also found out that the pulut kuning or yellow glutinous rice was used in ritual worship whereby it was offered to supernatural beings that were guardians of places like rivers or beaches.
