I read that the apple growers in China (or was it Japan?) would put a sticker of the Chinese character Fu onto the apple and leave it until the apple matures. The part that is covered with the sticker won't get much sunlight and thus the character Fu will be formed. Aiyah! It is something like if we wear a watch or a ring and over a period of time of being exposed to the sun, the part that is covered will be lighter. Simple, isn't it?
