CUKE-ASAURUS

The fruit above looks like something out of Star Wars, doesn't it?  Well, it is known as Kiwano Horned Melon.  The horned melon (Cucumis metuliferus) is also called African horned cucumber or melon, jelly melon, hedged gourd, English tomato, melano, or kiwano. The fruit of this plant is edible, but it is used as often for decoration as for food. When ripe, it has a yellow-orange skin and a lime green jelly-like flesh.
It is often called a “Cuke-asaurus”, possibly because it resemblesa brontosaurus.  After cutting the fruit, the inside looks like a bowl of cucumber seeds.  This gelatinous fruit tastes like sweet cucumber, with a slight tart aftertaste.
