AUSPICIOUS ARECA NUTS

My student, Sofian, is holding a basket of miniature areca nuts that we had harvested from the palm tree in our school. We are using the nuts for the Rangoli as they look so pretty and colourful. However, I don't think this type is edible and the tree is planted all around the school for decorative purposes.
The bigger type of areca nuts or buah pinang in Bahasa Melayu are sent as a bethrotal gift in Chinese weddings. It symbolises a long lasting and happy marriage for couple.
