BENEVOLENCE

The herb garden pictured above is actually the front and the surrounding area of a hardware shop in Kampung Simee. The proprietor of the shop is a kindly, old man who takes pleasure in planting the herbs and learning about their medicinal properties.

If you ask around the area, you'd find out about the benevolence of this old man who gives away the herbs for free to those who are in need of them. He'd also take the trouble to dry them and put them outside the shop for those who might want them.

The man is in his eighties and does not run the hardware shop anymore. Instead his children are managing the business. I had once asked him for some herbs and had a good chat with him about herbs. He said that if I were free to drop by and talk more with him. So far I have not had time to take him up on his offer.

What is amazing is that the herbs are thriving and they keep growing in abundance. The plants are healthy and free from infestation from pests. I am sure that his good deed is being noticed by the divine beings and that They have lent a hand in making his garden so lush and green. I am truly happy to know that there is a human being like him and hope that I will meet up with more such persons in the course of my life.
