WHAT NOT TO DO DURING GHOST MONTH

As we are still into the 7th lunar month which is also referred to as the Ghost Month by the Chinese, let me talk about what not to do so as to avoid having close encounters with the beings from another dimension.
  1. Try not to be near water during this period (unless you are competing in the Beijing Olympics. Heh! Heh!). Why? Because water is classified as 'yin' and spirits that have perished from drowning would be lingering there and they are very vengeful. These water ghosts would be on the lookout for substitutes to take their place in their watery graves.
  2. Avoid going near banana trees and banyan trees as they too are considered 'yin'. Also make sure not to cut or prick your fingers and let any drop of blood stain the plants. If not ...
  3. Avoid walking too close to the walls during this month to avoid close encounters with ghosts as they like to glide against walls as they pass.
  4. Try not to play mahjong at night as you might attract ghostly spectators.
  5. During the Chinese opera or wayang performance at the temple during the Salvation Ceremony, don't occupy the front seats as they are reserved for the wandering spirits.
