Lai Yoong and I had dinner with our friends Crystal and Ah Wah a couple of nights ago. We made sure not to order dishes with large prawns and certain types of fish as their prices are exorbitant now. This is because prawns and certain types of fish have auspicious sounding names in Chinese. We did order fish but it was not the type that was sought after for the new year, so the price remained the same.
