CONCUBINE LANE AKA YI LAI HONG 二奶巷 IN IPOH OLD TOWN

Last Saturday I went for lunch with Lai Yoong and Aunty Linda at the Thean Chun Coffee Shop in Ipoh Old Town. After our meal, the three of us viisted Lorong Panglima (Panglima Lane), or better known locally as Concubine Lane (or Yi Lai Hong in Cantonese). This narrow lane is just across the road from the coffee shop. The lane is named thus as the shop houses here were mainly occupied by kept women (first concubines) of tin tycoons in the olden days. At one time many of the houses were dilapidated but pains have been taken to restore the houses and turn the place into a tourist attraction.
