In Malay the plant where I go these purple and green leaves from is known as pokok nanas kerang.  In Chinese we call it Hum Fa (cockles flower) as the flowers resemble cockles.  What I usually do is boil it with brown sugar for about half an hour. This is said to be good to help detoxify our system and to treat acne problem.  That is why a few of my librarians keep asking me to boil it for them.  Not only does it help clear ones complexion of pimples, this herbal drink is also delicious.  Even those boys who have clear skin love to drink it.
