GEORGE TOWN: With less than a month before Chinese New Year, horse-shaped figurines and decorations are all the rage at the Chowrasta Market.
Trader Anny Teo, 28, said one of her items, a glow-in-the-dark horse figurine, had been selling like hot cakes.
“Besides the horse figurines, we also have the complete set of the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals.
“Another popular item is the miniature statue of ‘Cai Shen Ye’ (God of Wealth), which some believe is able to improve the feng shui of a house.
“Some of my customers buy it for religious purposes,” she said.
She remarked that the prices of products ranged from RM7 to more than RM40.
There are also two-dimensional horse-shaped cardboard decorations for sale.
At another shop selling festive decorative items, Soon Jia Yi, 24, said some of the “horse” template designs were selling fast.
“Out of the seven to eight cardboard designs featuring the horse, the one made of gold-glossed cardboard is the highest in demand.
“It is one of the newest designs, and the gold colour of the cardboard is more pronounced than using glitter, which sometimes can be wiped away,” she said.
Soon added that the prices of the decorations ranged between RM2.80 and RM9.90.
