RHYTHMIC FOUNTAIN AND NOT MUSICAL FOUNTAIN

My aunt and I visited the Rhythmic or Dancing Fountain at the Ipoh Railway Station last Saturday night.  We felt let down as the fountain was not what we had expected.  From news articles, we had expected a musical fountain with a fantastic light display.  But what we had was quite an ordinary looking one.
Anyway, I think it is not fully operational yet as I did see pictures in a blog with it looking like this.

Here is a related news article.

IPOH: COMMUTERS here have expressed satisfaction with the newly-renovated entrance to the city's railway station.

However, the new musical fountain constructed in front of the station is having some problems.

The fountain, costing about RM2 million, is only switched on for a duration of up to two hours at a time.

Ipoh mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim said this was due to some issues with the drainage mechanism of the fountain.

"What we noticed was that when the fountain is switched on, the water tends to overflow to the pool below the fountain.

"Apparently, the drains are too small to cope with the water flow," he said.

Roshidi said there were no other issues with the fountain, adding that he expected the problem to be settled by the end of the month.

"I have met with the contractors recently and I expect the fountain to be fully functional very soon.

"We have tested the fountain a few times, and the water sequencing effects are quite a spectacle. I hope that we can put on a show, especially for the upcoming National Day celebrations," he added.

Despite the glitches with the fountain, the public have welcomed the facelift for the railway station which had been completed last month.

Taxi driver Ahmad Salim Awang, 59, said that the entrance was now aesthetically pleasing, adding that there were no issues with the new entrance.

"It is very striking, and there are no parking or accessibility problems with the new structure."

D.Y. Aaron, 21, hailed the blend of modern facilities and classical architecture, saying that it would draw tourists to the state.

"It is a blend of Malaysian and classical British architecture which makes it stand out.

"The authorities have implemented something good here. The railway station looks very good without compromising any functionality," he added.
