YONGDAUM ROCK (DRAGON HEAD ROCK)

When I was at Jeju Island, the guide brought my group to a lot of tourist sites.  One of them was Yohng Duam. In Korean, Yong is dragon while Du is head and Am is Rock.  So YongDuam means Dragon Head Rock.  It is an unusual basalt rock formation from a volcanic eruption 2 million years ago in the shape of a dragon head.  It is 10M high and 30M long. Yongduam is a symbol and logo of Jeju Island.
Legend has it that an envoy sent by the Dragon King to gather the elixir of life on Mount. Halla, was shot down by the angry guardian spirit of Hallasan. The fleeing dragon fell into the sea and turned into rock with his head still surging towards the sky.
