CHEONJEYEON FALLS

As Jeju Island has been designated as UNESCO World Natural heritage, there were a number of natural wonders in the tour itinerary and Cheonjeyeon Falls was one of them. Translated into English it means Heavenly Emperor's Falls. It is a beautiful 3-tier waterfall and gorge. Information at the site has it that it resembled the white celestial robes of 7 nymphs. One local practice since ancient times is to stand under the waterfall on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month to help cure sickness. It is believed that by doing so, diseases can be cured by the 8th lunar month. However, this practice cannot be followed nowadays as swimming is banned. This waterfall is one of the three famous waterfalls of Jeju, the other two being Cheonjiyeon Waterfall and Jeongbang Waterfall.
