When I am back in Ipoh I like to frequent a coffee shop in Ipoh Garden which has a couple of my favourite stalls. I was sad to learn that the operators of the stall selling noodles and Yong Tau Foo had stopped selling as the husband was very ill. The fried noodle stall that my aunt likes is also not there anymore as the cook had to stop because he had to look after his mum who is suffering from cancer. A few months before that, the lady who sold Chee Cheong Fun there also had to stop as she had to look after her husband who suffered a stroke.
Aiyoh! It is really sad to hear of the fate of these hawkers and their family members. When ill health strikes, we humans begin to realise just how vulnerable and fragile we are.
