BUYING KAMPUNG DURIANS
On Monday my Aunt Linda bought two 'kampung durians' from a roadside peddler in Kampung Simee. For those who are not in the know, "kampung" in the Malay language means village. "Durian Kampung" or village durian means that these durian fruits do not come from a plantation but from a village. They are from from original durian trees, and not those that have been grafted, or genetically manipulated.
The ones that Aunt Linda bought were about RM6 each. She had Lai Yoong help her choose the durians
and then carry them to the car.
For your information, durians are classified as a Yang fruit while the longan is Yin. Yin means the fruits have a cooling effect while Yang means that the fruits are very heaty. One example of a Yin fruit is mangosteen.
As the durian is very heaty, people would usually eat mangosteens to offset the heatiness.
