In Taoism, the belief is that a newly deceased person may return (回魂) to his or her home one week (頭七) after his/her death and the seven po souls would disappear one by one every 7 days after death.

That is why both Taoist and Buddhist ceremonies last at least for 49 days. The first 7 days are believed to be the most important. Prayers are said every 7 days for 49 days. If a family of the deceased is poor this period can be short, lasting for only 3 days. The sons will usually pay for and attend the third week prayers while the fifth week is the turn of the daughters. A final ceremony may be organized 100 days after death.
The slip of paper in the picture above with the Chinese characters contain information about the 1st until the 7th prayer ceremonies for my mum. There is an eighth one for the 100 day ceremony.

it was said that when the deceased person return (回魂), he/she will be looking for food. some ppl will prepare all his/her favourite food.
but the simplest way is to steam a bowl of rice and an egg in a wok. after that cover the whole thing (wok) and leave it on the stove overnight. next morning throw away the rice and egg. and during the time he/she supposed to come back, everyone in the house must stay in their rooms less one's luck no good and may encounter with his/her warden (the bull head, horse face).
Thanks for the additional info
