THE THINGS THE CHINESE DO TO GET RID OF BAD LUCK

I read this very interesting article about some devotees of a temple undergoing a ritual whereby they used pineapples and cold water to keep bad luck at bay.  Hmm ... the things the Chinese do for good luck.
Read the article below.

Pineapples and cold water keep bad luck away
SOME 100 devotees of a temple in Cheras soaked their feet in cold water and held a pineapple to cross a bridge in a ritual at a cemetery to usher in good luck for the New Year, Guang Ming Daily reported.

More than 200 had registered for the ritual to turn around their ill-luck of the previous year but the Tua Peh Yeh Temple medium who was “inspired” to hold the ceremony allowed only 100 devotees because of space constraints and the fact it was being held for the first time.

The pineapple, ong lai in Hokkien, literally means “luck coming” and is a symbol of good tidings in the community.

The person in charge of the temple was quoted by the paper as saying those who already had good luck the previous year also took part in the New Year's eve ceremony as they wished to have greater fortune this year.

Participants, however, had to adhere to certain rules during the ritual, such as being quiet and not step on the graves.
