SUPPORT FROM NEIGHBOURING HOUSES

If you are thinking of buying a house, then one Feng Shui advice that I can give is to look for house that has houses on your left and right. This indicates support and protection. It is also good to have a house behind you as it also means you have support.

MY RESOLUTIONS FOR 2012

Hmm ... there is only 5 hours left of 2011.  We will be welcoming a new year very soon.  So, have you made your New Year resolutions?  Me?  I resolve to be healthy, wealthy and happy.

WHAT TO DO WITH OLD FAN COVERS

I have a colleague in school who loves gardening.  I may be the Flower Fairy but he is THE gardener.  During his free time, he'll tend to the plants in the school and also come up with creative ways to decorate the  Herb Garden.  Mind you, he does not get paid a single sen for doing this.  Now this is what I call dedication.
During the holidays, he was at work again.  This time, he used the covers of old fans to plant staghorn fern. You can see the product of his work in the pictures above.

SEA-LIFE TOILET SEAT COVER

When I was having a toilet break at a hotel resort, I chanced upon this sea life themed toilet seat cover in one of the ladies loo.  I want, I want ...  but then I also remember Lai Yoong's advice about not changing anything  that is not broken.  So I will have to wait until one of my toilet seats need changing before I can have change to a fancy one.  I managed to find a few other nautical themed covers from the Internet below.

FENG SHUI NEW YEAR PLANNER

Prepare Your Home and Yourself for the New Year with Feng Shui

As the New Year approaches, you may find yourself pondering the past year and you may be counting your blessings or thinking about what you could have done differently.

If you're like me, you might do a little of both.

Whatever the case, it's important to start the New Year off on a positive, hope-filled note.

This can include everything from stocking the refrigerator to clearing out old junk from the closets. If you miss the January 1st deadline, don't worry: the Chinese New Year isn't until the third week of January, so you've still got time.

To greet the New Year, set aside a couple of hours to give your house, bedroom, or office a New Year Blitz. Just remember, you are inviting a very special guest to your house: The New Year. So treat your house the way you would a very important dignitary. This is a new year of your life so welcome it in a grand way.

Take the list below in hand and check off the items one by one. Remember to get everyone in the house in on the act.

OUT WITH THE OLD

1. De-clutter
Grab a laundry basket. Next, set a timer and take it with you from room to room. Set it for five minutes. Now, start throwing out old papers, magazines, empty bottles of shampoo from the bathroom, old clothes you know you'll never wear again! Do it.

Got CDs you never listen to? Throw those out or donate them to charity. Have some old coffee mugs that don't match or odd drinking glasses still hanging around in your cabinets? Pitch 'em.

When in doubt, throw it out. Don't forget to look under the bed, too! And toss that lipstick you haven't worn in two years! Remember to clean out the pantry, too, and toss that half-empty box of Rice Krispies that's gone stale.

2. Sweep or vacuum
Get the old energy out by making the floors clean.

3. Do the laundry
Don't have dirty clothes hanging around. You can throw in a load or two while you declutter. Be sure to fold and put the clean clothes away.

4. Clean the bathroom
Make it sparkle. You don't want a nasty mess to greet the next year of your life!

5. Empty all trashcans
Don't want last years' trash hanging around, do you? Toss, toss, toss.

6. Clean out the refrigerator
Got a half-empty jar of apple butter? Get rid of it. You don't want to go into the New Year with old food or a moldy science project lurking in the fridge. Check out the fridge makeover and see if it doesn't inspire you! http://tinyurl.com/yha8w6x

7. Clear out visual clutter
Too much stuff everywhere? Clear off the counters in the bathrooms and kitchen. Clear off your desk and dust it. Pitch the sticky notes and papers and things taped everywhere! You can do it. Don't forget the refrigerator! Make it a blank slate.

Make as much space as possible. You cannot bring in new things if there is no room for it and we want a fantastic year, right? Then make your space "open" for the abundance of the New Year!

8. Yard work
Make sure the yard is picked up and the front door step is swept and clear.

9. Change the sheets and towels
Put clean sheets on all the beds on New Year's Eve and clean towels in the bathroom and kitchen. New sheets are even better.

10. Clean the car
This is what gets you around during the year. Drive through a car wash, take out the trash and do a quick cleaning.

All done? Wow, doesn't that feel good! Now you're ready for the next step.

IN WITH THE NEW!

1. Fill your pantry and kitchen
Stock the refrigerator with food and make sure the pantry is also stocked. It is bad feng shui to have an empty refrigerator and pantry. If you have canisters in the pantry or on the countertops, be sure to fill these.

2. Got citrus?
Oranges are excellent symbols for the New Year and the Chinese often celebrate the New Year by rolling oranges (symbols of gold) into the house. Place a big bowl of 8, 9, or 10 (the numbers of prosperity!) oranges in the living room or central location in the house next to dishes of nuts or candies to symbolize an abundant, fruitful home.

3. Buy a new plant
Put a beautiful new plant in the East (health & family relationships) sector of your house or office to symbolize a healthy beginning. You can also display some beautiful flowers here to symbolize your good health in the coming year.

4. Welcome good news
Place a golden bell in the NW corner of your home, office, or bedroom to bring good tidings from helpful people. Like old school bells? If so, place one of these in the NW corner of your yard for good news from helpful people.

5. Hang up new calendars
What better way to greet the New Year than by throwing out the old one? Take down all of last years' calendars.

6. Fill your wallet
You don't want to go into the New Year with an empty wallet. Put some money in your wallet -- or better yet -- go and buy a new wallet (red is the best!) or purse and start your financial off with new energy!

7. Invite a toad to your house
Place an old, broken clay pot upside down next to a water spout so a toad can make its home here. Toads are believed to invite money into the household; they're especially nice by the door. You can also place figurines of toads by the door.

8. Feed the birds
Birds are excellent feng shui and believed to bring good news. Fill your feeders or put out a feeder for the New Year.

9. Have fun and celebrate
Fun is good feng shui. A happy vibrant home or space is a good space, so plan a party of some kind of happy gathering. Remember, a home or office with good feng shui is easy to spot it's the one where everyone goes and doesn't want to leave. Make your space that kind of place.

FENG SHUI FOR YOURSELF

1. Avoid resolutions. Begin with the belief that all is as it should be right now, that you are perfect already. Instead, incorporate one or two small changes. Even small steps can have a big impact.

2. Count the blessings of you. Write down 100 things you like about yourself. Do it. Trust me, there's a lot more than 100 great things about you. For starters, you're reading a feng shui Ezine. That tells me you're open-minded and willing to try new things.

3. Say what you want in small ways. Want more love? Sign off all your emails with "Love, Sally." Or, maybe it's friendship you want, sign off as "Your friend." Give what it is you want this year.

4. Be friendly. Friendliness draws people and good circumstances to you. Driving through Texas I often see signs on the road that say, "Drive Friendly, the Texas Way." I love those signs. Wave and smile at people you pass as you drive like you did when you were a kid. Move over and let people pass and when someone lets you in traffic or allows you to pass, wave at them. Give a trucker a break. See a big rig signaling to merge? Let him in.

5. Do that one thing you know you've been putting off. There is nothing worse than having something hanging over your head. There's usually one thing that gets in your way of feeling successful and like you have a handle on life -- so take care of that one thing. Go on. You know what it is. Get it done once and for all.

6. Be nice to yourself. What would make life nicer for you? Find ways to pamper and love yourself. I like hot tea in the wintertime, but I got tired of running downstairs to the kitchen. So, I set up a little tea tray upstairs with a hot water pot and an assortment of teas and some of my favorite ginger thin cookies. It's a little treat that tells me "I love me."

7. Be nice to others. Feed the birds, set up a recycling center, volunteer. There are so many ways to be nice to others -- from donating money to good causes to mowing an elderly neighbor's lawn. I like to walk around my neighborhood and pick up trash to keep the neighborhood clean.

8. Set a goal. Making wish lists of what you would like to do is wonderful because just the act of writing things down makes the wishes more concrete, taking it from the random firings of neurons in your brain to real tangible words on paper. It's amazing what happens by doing just that one act. Put the list where you can see it and take steps toward each wish. By next year, it might surprise you how many of these things come true.

ANOTHER CHARITABLE CELEBRITY

Kim Hyun Joong who achieved Hallyu fame in his starring role as Ji Hoon Sanbae in Boys over Flowers has always been my favourite of the four in that popular K-drama.  My admiration for the Doctor Prince upped another notch when I read an article about him secretly making donations to charity. However, his goodwill was revealed by the Korean Red Cross Association.  Well, here is another case of a celebrity who does good with the stash of cash he has amassed.
Here is the article.
Kim Hyun Joong secretly donated $150,000 USD to charity

It’s just been revealed that singer Kim Hyun Joong secretly donated $150,000 USD for those in need.

On December 26th, the Korean Red Cross Association revealed that Kim Hyun Joong had donated $50,000 USD before embarking on his Japanese tour in November. He’s also donated an additional $50,000 USD to an association that heats homes, as well as another $50,000 to feed children in Fukushima following the aftermath of the earthquake, bringing his secret donation total to $150,000 USD.

A representative stated, “In the beginning of November, Kim Hyun Joong’s manager came by and donated $50,000 USD, relaying the message that Kim had wanted it spent where it was needed. He also asked that we not let the media know about it.”

Key East Entertainment also expressed, “It was something he did on his own so we had no idea about it. We feel that he just wanted to share his feelings as quietly as possible.”

In related news, Kim Hyun Joong will be opening a fan meeting in January before the start of his Japanese promotions.

THE SCHOOL THAT JUNSU BUILT

We all know that famous celebrities earn a lot of money.  We all have read stories about some super rich celebrities splurging their money to pamper themselves. Well, it is their right as they earned the money.
However, I am sure that not all of us know about some celebrities who use the money that they have earned to help others.  Let me share with you an article about a school in a tiny village in Cambodia that was built with financial aid from Kim Junsu (pictured below) of famous South Korean boy group, JYJ.  Actually, it came about because of Junsu's mom who visited through the aid of a volunteer organisation.  It was she who asked the people there what they wanted most and the answer was of course a school.  So Mrs Kim relayed the information to her famous and rich son who made the school a reality.  You can see the picture of the school below.

JYJ’s Junsu builds a school in Cambodia

Through the generous help of JYJ‘s Junsu, a small village in Cambodia was able to construct a school for its students.

On December 28th, ‘Adra Korea‘ announced the establishment of a ‘Kim Junsu School’ that took five months to build. The school includes six classrooms, a bathroom, and a clean water supply system.

The remote outback town is a part of the Pusat province and has a population of 1,500. It takes approximately three hours by car to travel to the capital. In a country that carries a suffering economy and health system, the town is considered one of the most impoverished within the country.

Junsu’s mother, Yoon Young Mi, visited the area through the aid of a volunteer organization and asked locals what they needed the most. Without hesitation, they had said that they needed a school for their children. After hearing about their needs, Junsu set out to construct a school to aid in the education of impoverished children and to help them find a future and a goal. Touched, the locals shared and donated everything they had to make it a possibility.

The opening ceremony was attended by 500 students and their parents, along with the town officials. The new elementary students put on an adorable show to express their gratitude. Junsu’s mother returned the favor by expressing, “I hope to name this school the ‘Xiah Junsu Evergreen School’ so that the students can preserve dreams as fresh and green as the trees and grow their own futures. I hope that everyone will grow up to become an important leader of our future.”

Junsu wasn’t able to attend due to his musical, ‘Elizabeth‘, but made sure to leave a message stating,“I’d love to visit everyone the next time I get an opportunity and sing and dance with you all.”

The town also set up a gate with the message ‘Kim Junsu Support Town’ to express their gratitude for all he’s done.

ASLEEP - AWAKE- ASLEEP AGAIN

Here you see one of the school cats having a snooze on a chair new the library.  Kitty noticed my presence when I went near to snap this photo.
You can see it staring at me with its beautiful blue eyes.
When it realised it was me, the cat relaxed.
Yeah!  Kitty is anticipating that I'd pet it which I often do.
Kitty:  Hey!  Why are you not giving me a pat today?
Kitty: Never mind!  I will continue my snooze now.  Bye!!!

OOPS! MISTOOK A RM1 SHOP FOR A KRIM SHOP

When I was out scouting for a shoe cabinet in Sitiawan town, I saw what I thought was a KR1M shop a few doors away from the Wescourt furniture store. KR1M is the acronym for Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia.
‘KR1M' is a shop operating on a mini market format, which provides various basic necessities at low prices. This initiative was inspired by the Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak on his concerns for the low income citizens located in the urban areas.
To find out more about such shops, click this LINK
I have to thank a blog visitor for pointing out the mistake to me.  The visitor said that the shop has been in operation for some time already.  Hmm ... when will there be a RM1 shop in Sitiawan.

ARROWS AND DARTS AIMING AT MY IPOH HOUSE

From April until August, 201, my mum's health was fragile.  Actually she is not suffering from any major illness but she keeps complaining of constipation and weakness.  Also she has become very obsessive about her constipation; to the point of not eating much for fear that the food she consumes turns toxic in her body. It is because of not eating much that she is weak all the time. Her doctor says she is exhibiting early signs of dementia.  However, I am hoping that she is going through a very bad phase in her life because her age and zodiac sign clashes with that of the year.
I rechecked the Feng Shui inside house but found nothing wrong.  Then I looked outside and realised that directly facing my door were cacti.  As can be seen in the above pictures, there are lots and lots of them.  My mother planted one small plant a few years back and they have been growing and growing.  A pot of cactus might be useful as protection but if you have sooo much cacti with so much thorns and spike, then loads of cutting Qi is emitted.  In Feng Shui these cutting Qi is referred to as Poison Arrows or Secret Arrows.. These are harmful, hostile structures as they send Sha Qi towards the home.
I have started cutting the cacti but it will take some time because of the thorns.  My hands are full of scratches.  However, by hook or by crook I will get rid of them for the sake of my mum's well-being.

WAITING FOR THE 'LADY OF THE NIGHT' TO BLOOM

The 'Lady of the Night' in the school Herb Garden is flowering once again.  I had thought that the flower would be in full bloom on Wednesday night as the pictures above were taken in the late afternoon.  When I went to school on Thursday morning, the flower was still in bud form.  Perhaps, it bloomed last night or will bloom now in the early hours of Friday.

CHEAP AND DELICIOUS ABC

In Malaysia we have a dessert called Ais Batu Campur (ABC) or Mixed Ice. The shaved ice is made usign a special ice machine.  A long time ago when I was a child, ABC which was known as Ais Kacang had only shaved ice and red beans (kacang).  Nowadays, the ice kacang of yore has been modified.  It comes in bright colours and with more added ingredients like fruits, nuts, sweet corn, grass jelly (cincau) and nuts. A topping of evaporated milk, condensed milk, or coconut milk is drizzled over the mountain of ice along with red rose syrup and sarsi syrup.  Sometimes, it also comes with an ice-cream.
The ABC above were ordered from a stall near the KD Rahmat stretch of the Lumut Waterfront.  Believe me, it tastes as good as it looks.  The price?  RM 2.00.  Yessss!  That cheap.
By the way, the food served is also delicious.

OH NO ... NOT AGAIN

Yesterday morning, one of my neighbours informed me that the telephone cables in our housing area have again been cut.  The cable thieves have struck again.  Actually it is not the cable they want but some metal inside which can fetch a tidy sum.  As a result of the theft, the phone and Internet connections were disrupted.  I managed to do a few posts using my portable modem but since the Maxis reception for my area isn't that good, I did not do too many posts.
This afternoon, the cable men came and did the repairs.  By the time I returned home from school in the evening, the men had reconnected the cables and the telecommunication service was resumed.  Thank you to them for their prompt and excellent work.

TICKETS FOR FENG SHUI TALK

My mum and aunt accompanied me to the World of Feng Shui Boutique in Ipoh to buy a ticket for Jason Eng's Annual Feng Shui Talk. My ticket costs RM38 and it is inclusive of either a BaZi Reading or an off-site audit of the Feng Shui of my house. I was also given a few complimentary tickets for my family and friends.

SAR KOK (TURNIP FRITTERS)

One food that Ipoh is famous for is the Sar Kok Liew.  It is actually deep fried turnip fritters wrapped in beancurd skin.  How does it taste like?  I got the following description on a Visit Perak Year pamphlet; the turnip gives a sweetish flavour while the beancurd provides a slightly salty taste.  Sar Kok may be dipped in curry or added to noodle soup.  It may be considered as the Hakka (a Chinese dialect group) version of the 'hashbrown".

SWEET POTATOES TO HELP EASE BOWEL MOVEMENT

SWEET POTATOES TO AID CONSTIPATION
Sweet potato contains digestible fiber which can facilitate bowel movement. In addition, it can also neutralize acid accumulated in the body. Furthermore, sweet potato's collagen and mucus polysaccharides can prevent arterial sclerosis. It also plays an important role in keeping vessels elastic and in excreting excess cholesterol.
Recommendation: baked sweet potato with skins. For health purposes, timing is important. The rule of thumb is to eat it early in the morning (e.g., 6:30 a.m.) before normal bowel movement time. This is to maximize intestinal absorption of sweet potatoes. This is particularly necessary for patients with serious illness wanting to use sweet potatoes for cure. Eating sweet potatoes after 12:00 is not desirable because the metabolism will slow down in the afternoon. On the contrary, sugar from sweet potatoes will remain unprocessed.

SPECIAL TEA CEREMONY

My god brother got married in March this year but my mum, Aunt Linda and I were unable to attend the wedding ceremony as my mum was very ill around that time.  To make it up to us, Kenny and his wife, Miao Fang specially came back to Ipoh this December for a special tea ceremony and post wedding dinner on Christmas day.  I had selected the day as it was auspicious for Kenny and did not clash with any one of our Zodiac signs.
You can see the three of us being served tea by the two of them.  During the ceremony, the elders would bestow their blessings on the couple and also utter their wishes before giving each of them a lai see (red packet).  Know what my mum's wish was?  Give me a grandchild.  Yeah!  Me?  I wished them happiness and love as a married couple.Later at night, Kenny treated us to dinner at a restaurant.
