I came face to face with a Baby Hatch when I visited my sister at the Ipoh Specialist Hospital last week. I have read about it in the newspapers but have never seen one in real life. So that was a first for me. For those who don't have a clue what I am talking about, let me fill you in on the details. A baby hatch is a place where mothers can bring their babies, usually newborn, and leave them anonymously in a safe place to be found and cared for. As there were quite a number of cases of babies being abandoned and left to die, the idea for having such a Hatch at hospitals was born. One reason many babies were abandoned here in Malaysia is because they were born out of wedlock.
