THE STORY OF MISS CHEAH AND THE SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM

When I was first posted to the vocational school in 1995, there was no basketball team.  This wasbecause this game was not so popular among the Malay students.  However, there were a number of my boys who had played basketball in their former schools and they wanted to form a club in 1997.
They had talked to the administration about this but were told that they could do so if they could get a teacher willing to take charge of their team.  So, the boys persuaded me to take on the task.  I guess they must have assumed that since I was a Chinese I'd know how to play the game.  Unfortunately, I told them that I did not play the game.  However, I did know the rules of the game.  After much persuasion ... actually it was much pestering and pleading, I gave in.  And so that was how I have been managing the school basketball team.
Today there was a photo taking session for the school magazine and behold is the team for 2011.  The teacher in black sitting to my right, Mr Hanafiah, was actually one of my students who was in the basketball team.  He graduated and came back to teach in his alma mater.  Of course, his teacher roped him in to coach the team.  He could not possibly refuse me.  Heh! Heh!
