There is an amazing story about a certain Kuan Yin idol at the Tua Pek Kung Temple in Pasir Panjang.  This temple has a history of about a hundred years.  It was set up by the early immigrants from China who had settled in a fishing village in Pasir Panjang, Manjung.  They had invited the Taoist deity, Tua Pek Kung when they arrived in Malaya and built a temple in His honour.  The fishermen believed that Tua Pek Kung would protect them when they go out to sea to earn a living.
Then about 90 years ago, the Taoist priest at the temple had a vision.  He said that if the fishermen were to go to a certain spot near the beach they would find a golden idol of Kuan Yin.  True enough they did and they installed the Goddess in the temple .  And legend has it that the fishermen began to prosper after the arrival of the Goddess.  I was told by one of the temple people, that the idol of Kuan Yin had been stolen three times but each time the idol would be returned by the thief after they encountered some misfortune.  They must have reckoned that if the Kuan Yin was in their possession they would become immensely rich and powerful.  Tsk! Tsk!  Didn't they know that they weren't supposed to take what does not belong to them?  Serves them right for being punished.  Nowadays the Kuan Yin idol is kept at a special prayer hall in the temple and the place is locked.  Only authorised personnel are allowed to enter the place.
So there you have the story of the manifestation of divine powers.
