Yesterday morning, I decided to give a surprise to my friend and colleague Sahak whom I have known for 16 years. It was his birthday and I bought him a cake. I gave him a call and asked him to drop by the library to pay me a visit as I wanted to treat him to a drink He came at around 8.40 p.m. The students from my class, my library assistant and another teacher sang him a birthday song. After that, everyone got to eat a piece of the cake.
Sahak is a very dear friend of mine. He would be one of my friends who would always come to my rescue or assistance whenever I give out a distress signal. There was once when I felt very faint in one of the workshops in school and it was Sahak who sent me to the hospital. Another of my friends, Zaki, took over Sahak's class so that he could drive me there and later fetch me back. He also bought me lunch from the canteen so that I could take my medicine after consuming a meal.
When my old house was burgled in 2009, he was one of the teachers who rushed to my aid on hearing the news. It was also he and Zaki who helped to repair my door the following day. So isn't he a gem of a friend?
By the way, he said that this was the first time in his forty-four years that he got to celebrate his birthday in such a way. His wife and daughter would usually go out for a meal with him to celebrate. I usually treat him to a meal in the canteen or buy him some chocolates for his previous birthdays. However, this year I decided to do something different to surprise my friend.
