UNLUCKY TO GIVE AN UMBRELLA AS A GIFT

As I had highlighted in a previous post, umbrellas nowadays come in very pretty designs.  However, I would not want to receive an umbrella as a gift.  Why?  It is because in Mandarin, the umbrella is called "yue san" and the word  'san' resembles the word for separation . With this negative connotation associated to it, it is most certain that a Chinese would most definitely not give such a gift to people they like.
