Some shops and stalls in Ipoh refer to the Buah Kundang above as Pipa or Loquat. Mind you a few of the shops are selling them at RM20 a kilo. At the Farmer's Market, it is sold at between RM8 to RM10 a kilo. Actually I have been eating this Kundang or Kemior for years and I kept telling my mum and aunt that they were like mangoes and nothing like the Pipa used to make the cough mixture. Their seeds also resembles the mango seeds.
In the pictures below, you see the real Loquats or Pipa. At a glance the Kundang does look a bit like the Pipa but then if you study carefully, there is a difference. The most distinct difference is the seed.
