TIP FOR SNAKE BITES

When I was at the Farmer's Market in Kampung Koh this morning, there was this traditional medicine man promoting his wares.  He shared a tip about what to do when bitten by a snake with his audience.  According to him, if one is bitten by a snake, one should get hold of a lime and then squeeze the lime juice on to the part that had been bitten.  After that use a piece of clean cloth or tissue to place over the wound.  After about 5 minutes lift the cloth and look at the colour of the blood.  If the blood is fresh red, then there is nothing to worry about as the snake is not poisonous.  If the colour is brownish or blackish-red then the snake is poisonous and one needs to go to the hospital.  However, he said that if one already had used the lime juice on the wound, then the lime would react with the poison and prevent the poison to travel to other parts of the body for about 4 hours.  So that would buy more time for the injured person to be taken to the hospital for treatment.  I learnt something new and am sharing with you here as this is knowledge on first aid.
