Just look at the crowd waiting for the popiah in the picture above. The customers would usually buy at least 4 pieces. Each piece is priced at RM2.00.
The popiah made by the elderly hawker has crispy fried prawns, crab meat, sengkuang, cucumber, hard beancurd, fried eggs, lettuce leaves, fried onion and garlic as fillings. Yummy, yummy.
The uncle would place 12 popiah skins on the wooden surface, next hewould spread the hoi sin sauce and chilli sauce on the the popiah skin and a pieces of lettuce leaf. Then he will place the fillings.
My Auntie Linda waiting patiently for our order.
Once the fillings are done, the wrapping process would be next. He does it deftly. The uncle has been selling popiah since 1957. That is a long, long time. He says that his son operates another popiah stall at Old Town in Ipoh. He starts his business at around 3.00 p.m.After the popiah are wrapped, the uncle would ask if the popiah needs to be cut before he wraps them in plastic sheets for the customers.
The sengkuang soup plus the hoi sin and chilli sauce for the fillings.
Some of the fillings like crab meat, cucumber, eggs and beancurd.
Tada ... the mouthwatering popiah.
