PRAYING FOR DIVINE PROTECTION

Many Chinese (especially those of the Taoist faith) have supertitions about the Ghost Month or the seventh lunar month.  It is believed that the gates of Hades are open and the ghosts are free to roam about.
The Taoists believe that hospitals are places where there are lots of spiritual beings and therefore it is considered taboo to have a stay there.  Below is part of an article about Aaron Yan of Taiwan boyband Fahrenheit who had to be hospitalised twice and what he did to rid him self of the ill luck.

For the Chinese, the last place they would want to be in during the Hungry Ghost Festival is the hospital.

Yet Aaron Yan has visited the hospital not once, but twice in the past two weeks.

On the first day of the Hungry Ghost Festival (Aug 10), Aaron came down with a heat stroke while filming and was briefly hospitalized.

Recently while filming a new drama serial, the actor injured himself.

This time, he was doing a conflict scene with veteran actor Jack Kao when they got carried away in their clash and Aaron accidentally hit his head on the wall.

Although he was fine on impact, Aaron began feeling unwell as filming went on and started having dizzy spells.

A late-night check-up at the hospital revealed that Aaron had suffered a minor concussion due to the impact.

With two visits to the hospital during the Hungry Ghost Festival period, which is considered extremely inauspicious and unlucky in traditional Chinese belief, Aaron immediately went to a temple to pray for divine protection.
