Believe it or not, the Kuih Kapit or Love Letters (a type of Chinese New Year biscuits) above were given to me by my neighbour in Sitiawan as a reply new year gift. Initially I thought that only one or two were burnt or badly made but I found that almost all of the biscuits were like that. Even a couple of the mandarin oranges that she put in the plastic bag to give to me were spoilt. Only the small plastic container of arrowroot chips were edible but still a bit overfried.
Etiquette-wise, this is a very discourteous act. In the gift bag that I gave to her, I didn't give any rotten or damaged food as I went to buy the two packets of groundnuts, a pack of red dates, a packet of biscuits and mandarin oranges from the supermarket a few days before giving them to her. Aiyoh! I think I was given the bits and pieces of the kuih kapit that were not deemed fit to be sold. Yeah! She made biscuits to be sold to people at RM19.00 for a hundred pieces. I don't think I will be giving her any Chinese New Year gifts next year as I do not want to get spoilt things in return as they give off bad vibes and also bad Feng Shui.
