WISH THEY WERE FOR REAL


I am going to start 2010 by blogging about romance and what better way to kick off the year with a story of love and marriage.

For the last two weeks of 2009, I was engrossed in watching a Korean reality show called, "We Got Married". I only watched the part with the couple, Kim Hyung Joong of Boys Over Flowers fame, and Hwang Bo who is 6 years his senior.

Initially I wanted to watch one episode just to see whether Kim Hyung Joong was like the Yun Ji Hoo character since it was reported that he got the role because the producers of Boys Over Flowers felt that he was most suited for the character of Yoon Ji Hoo after watching him in "We Got Married". However, when I started I just couldn't stop. For your information, the show pairs up famous Korean celebrities to show what life would be like if they really married.

Along the way, I really started hoping that the two of them really fell for each other in real-life. Since it is reality TV, that would mean that we get to see the actors being themselves. At first, Hwang Bo just looked like a pretty Korean celebrity but as I watched more episodes, I saw that the lady was really nice and caring. She does a lot of charity work and has even gone to Bangladesh with the Compassion group to help the children there. In one of his interviews, Hyung Joong mentioned that she was like an onion with many layers, the more one peeled, the whiter it got. He meant that he found the goodness and purity of her soul. Obviously, the awkwardness the two had for each other in the first few episodes slowly turned into mutual admiration and perhaps love towards their last few episodes together and had many rooting for them to actually fall in love in real-life.

I am a romantic at heart and am keeping my fingers crossed that Kim Hyung Joong and his lady Hwang Bo are secretly dating in real-life and that they get to actualise their love. In my eyes, they were made for each other.
