CHINESE RED BEAN SOUP
What you see above is my version of the red bean soup or hong tau sar. My friend Pek Soong, her mum and dad would request I make this soup for them whenever I meet up with her at our annual year end meeting. Yesterday I made my famous soup for a few of my friends in Sitiawan and Manjung and they too seemed to love it. One of my friends said her father finished up the hong tau sar that I sent to her. Hmm ... maybe I can set up a dessert stall when I retire. Heh! Heh!
To the Chinese in China and everywhere else in the world, red bean soup is a popular dish. In Cantonese we call it tong shui which means sugar water or sweet soup. Some ladies would make ice pops from leftover red bean soup so as not to waste them. Adding a bit of santan to it would make it even tastier.
