I actually did not know that 'unfriend' is an acceptable word. In primary school, whenever I had a quarrel with my friends, the words that come out would be "I don't want to friend you". Anyway, that was years ago, in 2009 people say 'unfriend' when they mean 'remove someone as a "friend" on a social networking site such as Facebook'.
By the way this word was named as the word of the year by New Oxford American Dictionary.
