ULAM

Ulam raja and angled beans

The Malays have a fondness for ulam. What is it? Ulam is actually the name given to plants that can be eaten raw (or scalded for just a while) before eating with rice. It is also eaten with budu, cencaluk or sambal belacan (see second picture). Examples of ulam are cucumbers, cabbages, ulam raja, bambo shoots and angled beans.
The good thing about eating ulam that it is good for health. Many swear that it is able to make one stay young longer and it also keeps us healthy.
