CALAMITY CALLING

By T.SELVA

The unfavourable placement of Jupiter and Saturn spells bad luck for nations located in the eastern and south-eastern part of the Northern Hemisphere.
THE earthquake and typhoon devastation in South-East Asia early this week points to an inauspicious astrological period for countries in the southern hemisphere.
The unfavourable placement of Jupiter and Saturn will cause such disturbances in the region over the next 30 months.
The affected countries should be wary of more similar calamities although they will not be as serious as the Dec 26, 2004, tsunami.
I sat down with my master, Yuvaraj Sowma, to do an astrological and Vasthu analysis following the recent natural disasters, which wrecked havoc in Samoa, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Philippines and caused tremors in Malaysia.
All the nations affected by these disasters are located in the eastern and south-eastern part of the Northern Hemisphere.
In Vasthu Sastra, the south-east is the fire quadrant, known for aggression and unstable moods.
On Earth, this same area (South-East Asia) is also where the most numbers of volcanoes are located.
Indonesia, which is positioned directly in the south-east quadrant, has a whopping 151 volcanoes – some of which are among the most active in the world.
Indian astrology maintains that from mid-January to mid-July, the Earth’s declination is towards the north; the rest of the year, the declination is towards the south. A southern declination is unfavourable for people living in countries in the Southern Hemisphere or close to the Equator.
Conditions are particularly bad in an unfavourable astrological period and are aggravated when the days are nearing the full moon or on full moon night.
When the tsunami hit Samoa on Sept 30, it was just a few days before a full moon. In the case of the 2004 tsunami, which affected the same region very adversely, the moon was full.
Also, the Indian almanac claims that Sept 15 to Oct 15 is an inauspicious period; this is why believers do not move house, get married, travel, or schedule important personal and business engagements during this period.
Astrologically, when the two important zodiac planets of Jupiter and Saturn get closer, they bring significant effects to the countries in the unfavourable regions and zones.
Due to Jupiter’s placement in Saturn’s house, countries in the east and south-east will face more natural calamities and disasters. Disaster management systems by governments of affected nations should be on high alert and be prepared to act to prevent and minimise human and economic losses.
Individuals born under the moon sign of Mithunam (Gemini), Simha (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Thula (Libra) and Kumbha (Aquarius) should exercise extra caution during this period because they are likely to be more prone to ill luck.
They should avoid long distance travel and postpone important decision making until the planets in their respective horoscope charts are positioned auspiciously.
Those born under such zodiac signs should visit places of worship particularly on a Saturday to appease the effects of Saturn and perform charity work.
