In Malaysia the porches of many houses are built with a covering for part of the porch. This is so that there will be shade for the cars. If the only half driveway to the house is covered then there is an adequate amount of lighting and ventilation which is considered good feng shui.
For your information, a house that is too yang (bright) is not too good and neither is one that is too yin (dark).
