A WORK OF ART

Recently I had a visitor to this blog who is a Wu Lou enthusiast. She sent me pictures of some of her gourds via email but I have yet to get permission from her to post them here. Instead I found this lovely gourd art with an equally delightful poem.

GOURD ART
I planted the seed,
and waited for rain,
oh my this can be such a huge pain.
Finally it came,
the rain it did fall,
my little seed it sprouted,
even though it quite small.
Now a few weeks later,
small fruit it does bear,
pollination time,
is now in the air.
We pollinate the fruit,
so that growth we insure,
a few weeks more now,
and the fruit is like wood!
Don't take it off the vine yet,
you must wait till it dries,
then you can paint it,
with acrylics and dyes.
A little seed once you were,
but now you are a grown gourd.
Now for the sadness,
now we must part,
you are no longer just a gourd,
now you're a work of art!
