HOT MOURNING

I read that Singaporean MEDIACORP stars Christopher Lee and Fann Wong will be getting married this year eventhough the former's father passed away a couple of months ago. The two have decided to go ahead with their wedding as planned with consent from their parents.
After the death of Lee's father in February, the couple needed to register their marriage within 100 days to proceed with the wedding.
According to Chinese marriage customs, Chinese couples who wish to marry after the demise of one of the parents need to do so within 100 days of a bereavement, or wait three years. It is an old tradition to honour the deceased parent. In olden times, the children should mourn for three years. If a marriage has been planned in the near future, the children would either get married within 3 months, called "hot mourning", or have to wait till after 3 years. This is what is termed as 'hot mourning".
