In Feng Shui, clocks are used in certain parts of the house that has good chi. For instance, according to Flying Star Feng Shui, the Southeast is a lucky area for the year of the Ox and the chi there will be good. It is believed that the movement of the pendulum will stimulate the chi in this auspicious area and let it be circulated in the whole house.
Mr Ding wrote in and asked me for he reason why clocks should not face the main door. Well, as far as I know there are two reasons for the taboo.
One is because when we enter our homes, we want to relax and connect with our living space and leave the concerns of the outside as we enter the main door. I am sure, most of us want to relax and connect with our homes. If we were to enter the house and see the clock and be reminded of the time, then we might carry our concerns at work or in school with us. When we reach our homes, we want to step into a different time-zone and not be concerned with the outside world so much.
The second reason has to do with the flow of energy. When a clock is placed on a wall in a position where it is directly facing the front door, it can block or disturb the flow of energy, thus creating a stagnant space where not much good is happening.
