WHEN THE ELEPHANTS FIGHT, THE MOUSEDEER DIES

The second picture of the head of a young child in the newspaper really saddened my colleagues and I this morning. This is akin to a Malay proverb which goes "Gajah sama gajah bertelingkah, pelanduk mati di tengah-tengah" which literally means when the elephants fight, it is the little mousedeer that end up dead. This is what is happening at the Gaza Strip where the Palestinians are under unrelenting attack by Israel.
In the first picture, three Palestinian children from the Balosha family, of five who were all killed in the same Israeli missile strike, are seen in the morgue before their burial at Kamal Edwan hopsital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza Strip, Monday, Dec. 29, 2008.
In this blog, I write about the pursuit of happiness but seeing pictures of these dead babies make me really, really sad. Why must this happen?
