When I used the pussy willow as the central decoration for my library last week, my students and colleagues mentioned that the pussy willow is to the Chinese New Year what the Christmas tree is to Christmas. Just like the Christmas tree, pussy willow is hung with auspicious decorations to make it more festive. It is the symbol of peace and harmony.
One can buy a dozen for aroundRM20.00 (cheaper at the hypermarkets) and there are even those that come in pots. My friend, Haji Hasnin, usually gets me to help him buy some each year as he loves to use them as decoration for his house.
