MANY, MANY MOONS AGO

I sent one of our students, Nizam, to the Emergency Ward at the district hospital at around 11.00 a.m. today as his eyes suddenly became swollen during class. While waiting for him to get his medicine from the dispensary, I went to the store in the hospital to buy him food.
When I was waiting at the counter, one man approached me and asked if was Cikgu Cheah Li Na. I said yes and had imagined that he was a teacher from another school or a former student of STESMA. To my surprise, he told me that I taught him when he was in Standard 6 when he was studying at SK Kinjang in Chenderiang. Wow! That was many, many years ago and his class was the first one I taught when I was first posted there after college. He said that he recognised me when he saw me as I looked the same as when I taught him. Ahem!!!
Now my student, Azhar, is working at HL in Lumut. His wife, Puan Aspariza, is a teacher in a secondary school here. They have 4 children. Well, as a teacher, it is really gratifying to see my students doing well in life. I hope to have more such encounters with my former students as it really makes my day to meet them after such a long time. Hopefully, they'll again say that they recognise me as I still look the same. Ka! Ka! Ka!
