This is a Taiwanese comedy series that Eric recommended to me. He told me that his other clients were raving about how interesting it is. Since I like Nicholas Teo, I rented the series and started watching it on Tuesday.
Here is some info about the story taken from Wikipedia:
Invincible Shan Bao Mei (無敵珊寶妹) is a romantic comedy Taiwanese Drama starring Nicholas Teo and Amber Kuo. The story goes like this, Sun Wu Di (Nicholas Teo) and his father were kidnapped when Wu Di (which means "Invincible") was still a child. As an adult, it is very hard for him to trust the people around him, despite the fact that he has a girlfriend, Zu An (Hong Xiao Ling). He thinks of himself very highly and very lowly of those around him. Leading a life with no worries and with himself as the only person he can trust, his world gets turned up-side-down when he meets a girl named Hu Shan Bao (Amber Kuo).
What I think about it
It is an interesting drama to watch but not to the extent that I would want to buy a copy of the drama to keep let alone watch it for a second time. The storyline is very familiar and Nicholas is charming as usual. Even when he was supposed to be mean and bad, he still looked so cute to me. When he was supposed to be a down and out vagabond, he still looked like a rich kid. What I like about the story is the moral value that it is trying to convey about there being people who are caring and kind to others. The one I like most is about why Wu Di was named such. He had thought his father named him such so that he would be invincible but his father meant for him to me without enemies, which is another interpretation of Wu Di.
The acting of the actors in the drama are okay but they are not outstanding. Unfortunately, I think I am spoilt by watching two Lee Jun Ki dramas back to back, Iljimae and The Time between Dog and Wolf and then rewatching his groundbreaking Wang Il Namja or The King and the Clown again. Here we can see an actor who commands the movie whenever he appears and has to capability to flesh out different roles, be it spy, effeminate jester, playboy, gangster, useless rascal by day and Robin Hood burglar by night. To me Nicholas stands out as a singer and not really an actor. He truly has a very beautiful voice.
