Before the start of the new year, the Chinese will carry out spring cleaning and other activities. As we do not have the four seasons in Malaysia, we only say that we are sweeping our houses to get ready to usher in a new year. Through generations, the Chinese have been guided by astrologers and feng shui masters who would look for the most suitable dates to carry out this task. One must look for an auspicious day which does not clash with our zodiac signs to ensure that we obtain the best results from this exercise. I got the above auspicious day guide for 2009 when I went with my mum and aunt to a shop selling prayer paraphernalia. Besides auspicious spring cleaning dates, it also gives dates for welcoming the wealth god, to send off the kitchen god, to start work, dates of the various festivals and so on. The guide is given free. You can also look up the dates from the Chinese Almanac or T’ung Shu but it is more troublesome as it takes some time to locate the dates.
Just in case you cannot read Chinese, I am giving the dates to clean house below:
** The dates in bracket is the date according to the lunar calendar. One should not choose a day where ones zodiac sign or family members who are involved in the cleaning activity clash with it.
