Remember the Rangoli that was created from coloured rice that my students and I did for Diwali? Well, the festival is over and I was told by my Indian student that the rice must not be just disposed of. Instead, it should either be left outdoors to be fed to the birds or ants. However, I thought of a more novel way and that was to use the rice grains as fertilisers for the plants in the Herb Garden. You can see two of my students sprinkling the rice grains on to the plants. Anyway, I also reason that birds visiting the garden could also eat the grains. So it would be a win-win situation.
